Pricing — plain English, no surprises

You should know what it costs before we ever speak.

Every figure on this page is a fixed price for fixed scope, or a real monthly rate for ongoing work. No "starting from" tricks. No bundled surprises. If the work we end up doing falls outside what's quoted, we tell you what it costs before we do it — not after.

All figures Australian dollars, GST exclusive. Invoiced on an ABN tax invoice. Paid by EFT or card (Stripe).

Build it

New websites — fixed-price, scope agreed upfront.

Pricing scales with page count, content, and integrations. We quote the whole job before we start, and the price doesn't move unless the scope does — in which case we'd tell you first.

Single-page website

For a small business that needs a credible presence online and nothing more. One well-written page, fast, accessible, marked up for search.

From $2,500 fixed price · GST exc.

What scales the price: how much copywriting you want us to do (vs. supply), how much imagery and photo direction is needed, whether you have an existing brand or want us to build a wordmark and palette from scratch.

Includes brief, design, build, copy, content load, launch. The first month of managed care is included free if you take it on after.

Multi-page website

Up to 10 pages. Service business, product range, portfolio, charity, professional services — the standard SME website shape.

From $8,500 fixed price · GST exc.

What scales the price: number of pages, complexity of integrations (booking system, email flows, payment), how much of the copy and imagery we're writing or sourcing.

Includes the lot — brief, design, build, copy across every page, schema markup, security headers, email authentication setup, launch, and the first month of managed care free.

Shopify store — theme-based

For brands selling up to ~500 products who want a working store quickly. Built on a heavily-customised Shopify theme.

From $8,000 fixed price · GST exc.

What scales the price: how many products need loading, whether we're writing product copy, complexity of variants and collections, integration with shipping, reviews, search.

Includes theme customisation, product loading (up to 100 products — bulk pricing for more), email flows (welcome, abandoned cart, post-purchase, win-back), payment and shipping setup, launch.

Shopify store — custom theme

For brands that want a store that doesn't look like every other Shopify store. Bespoke theme built ground-up in Liquid.

From $20,000 fixed price · GST exc.

What scales the price: depth of the bespoke design, custom Liquid sections required, custom checkout (Plus tier only), integration with bespoke systems.

For brands where the website is the product — fashion, hospitality, lifestyle, anywhere the brand experience has to feel considered rather than templated. The first month of managed care included.

Look after it

Managed care — monthly retainer, real hours, no nonsense.

The annuity work that exists because shipping a website and walking away is how broken websites are born. Most clients we build for end up here. Most clients we audit eventually do too.

Managed care — standard

For sole traders, small retailers, service businesses, anyone where the website isn't itself the regulated thing.

Monthly $297/mo ~ 4 hours · GST exc.

What you get for the price: roughly four hours of our time each month — copy updates, new pages, new products, blog posts, image swaps, plugin updates, security checks, performance tuning. Whatever you actually need.

Why $297 not $497: at this tier we're not carrying the compliance overhead. Honest pricing for honest work. Most owner-operators never use the full four hours — what they're really buying is somebody who picks up when the site breaks at 7pm on a Saturday.

No lock-in. Month to month. We earn the next month by being worth the last one.

Managed care — compliance tier

For regulated sectors: health (AHPRA, APP), legal, financial (ASIC, AFSL), real estate, childcare (CCYP). The website is part of your regulatory surface.

Monthly $497/mo ~ 6 hours · 12-month minimum

What's different from the standard tier: six hours per month, plus we carry the compliance-watching overhead. We monitor regulator publications, track changes to your industry's disclosure requirements, and keep your privacy policy / disclaimers / professional registrations current as the rules evolve.

Why $497 not $297: regulated sectors carry real penalty exposure if disclosures lapse — typically thousands to tens of thousands per breach. The extra $200/mo covers our time to keep that current and our professional indemnity to back the work.

12-month minimum. Compliance work pays back over time, not month-to-month — and it doesn't make sense to engage for less.

Audit first

The audit — free to start the conversation, paid for the full deliverable.

Not sure whether you need a new site or just need someone looking after the one you have? Start with the audit. Most of our work begins this way.

Three-finding audit

Three things on your current site worth knowing about. Each one verifiable, each one sourced. No sales pitch attached.

Conversation starter Free 48-hour turnaround

Why free: the audit's job isn't to be a billable line item — it's to start a conversation, prove we know what we're talking about, and demonstrate that most "fine" websites have measurable problems the owner can't see. If we're not the right fit, we'll say so and point you somewhere that is.

Tell us your domain. You'll have the three findings in writing within a day or two.

Full audit deliverable

15–30 findings in writing, with methodology, remediation, severity ratings, and consequences. The full document you can hand to your accountant, your insurer, your developer, or just keep on file.

From $497+ credited if we proceed

What scales the price: the size of the site, the depth of investigation (compliance audits for regulated sectors run higher), and whether you want before-and-after evidence for specific findings. We quote before we start.

Why we charge: the full audit is a real document — every finding written, every citation verified, every claim defensible — that takes real time. It exists for prospects who want the deliverable before committing to any further work.

The fee is fully credited against anything you commission afterwards. If we end up doing the rebuild or the ongoing care, the audit was effectively free.

Anything else

Things we'll quote per job.

Plenty of work doesn't fit a standard price. We scope it, quote it, and tell you before we start.

  • Brand work — wordmark, identity, colour, type Scoped Modest scope, distinctive output. Usually $2,500–$6,000 depending on depth.
  • Copywriting Scoped Plain, owner-voiced copy that doesn't sound like AI wrote it — even when AI helped. Reviewed line by line.
  • Migrations — platform changes, replatforms Scoped WordPress to Shopify, Wix to Webflow, anything that needs careful redirects and SEO preservation.
  • Rescue jobs — broken sites, dead sites, hacked sites Scoped Triage first (always free), then a fixed-price quote for the remediation.
  • Email — SPF, DKIM, DMARC setup Scoped Almost always cheaper than you'd expect. We do this as part of every build by default, or as a small one-off.
  • One-off training $250 / hour Walking your staff through editing the CMS, managing email flows, posting to the blog. Plain teaching, no obligation to continue.

None of it bundled, none of it surprising. If we're going to charge for something, you'll know the number first.

How we price

The thinking behind the numbers.

Fixed scope, fixed price.

If we agree the work upfront, the price doesn't move. If the work changes, we tell you the new number before we do anything. No "scope creep" invoices arriving after the fact.

The audit is the wedge, not the product.

The three-finding audit is free because its job is to start a conversation, not to extract money. Most clients never pay for the full audit — they go straight from the free version to either a rebuild or ongoing care. The full audit exists for prospects who genuinely want the document.

Care is the annuity.

SDG exists because building a website and walking away is how broken websites are made. Most of our work is ongoing relationships. Every build offer ends with a managed-care commitment because that is, honestly, the work most clients need most.

No discount-shopping, no premium-pretending.

These are working prices for a one-person agency that does the work properly. We're not the cheapest option (because we do the compliance and security work properly), and we're not the most expensive (because we're not selling status). We sit honestly in the middle.

No proceeding without a conversation.

You'll never get a quote from us based purely on a contact form. Every engagement starts with a 20-minute call so we both know what we're agreeing to. The call is free. If we're not the right fit, we'll say so.

Got a number in mind that doesn't appear here?

Tell us what you're trying to do and what budget you're working with. We'll tell you honestly whether we can make it work, suggest a sensible adjustment if we can't, or point you somewhere better if neither makes sense.

Start a conversation

Or have a coffee with Scott in Avalon — say so — that's how most of these start anyway.
